Prepare to work safely in the construction industry
This unit is about knowing how to stay safe before you step onto a construction site: the rules, the risks, the gear you wear and what to do if something goes wrong.

What the unit says, step by step
1. Identify health and safety legislative requirements of construction work
- 1.1 Know who is responsible for safety on site — including you.
- 1.2 Know the main safety rules that apply to your work.
2. Identify construction hazards and control measures
- 2.1 Spot the things on site that could hurt someone.
- 2.2 Know the order of controls, from removing a hazard to wearing PPE.
3. Identify health and safety communication and reporting processes
- 3.1 Read site signs and know what they are telling you to do.
- 3.2 Know how to report a hazard, a near miss or an injury.
Assessment conditions: Assessment occurs under the RTO's assessment arrangements, using workplace or simulated site conditions and relevant documentation.
